Napier sits on the sunny shores of Hawke's Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. First fly to Auckland with a one-stop carrier such as Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, Singapore Airlines via Singapore or Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong. From London, Auckland takes around 24 to 26 hours including one stop; from Manchester, usually via a Gulf or Asian hub, allow roughly 26 to 28 hours. Air New Zealand then flies Auckland to Napier (Hawke's Bay Airport) in about 55 minutes, with connections also from Wellington and Christchurch.

Hawke's Bay Airport sits about 8 km north of the city centre, a 10 to 15 minute drive. It is domestic-only, so you arrive on a connecting flight from within New Zealand. Taxis and door-to-door shuttles meet arrivals, and all the major car hire firms have terminal desks, which is ideal for touring the wineries, coast and the nearby towns of Hastings and Havelock North.
